STEAM Bursary

Promoting STEAM in Schools

In line with the Department of Education and Skills STEM Education Implementation Plan 2017 - 2026, two core aims of this policy are to (1) increase the number of students choosing STEM subjects in post-primary schools, those progressing to STEM pathways in Further or Higher Education and those who take up careers in STEM and (2) increase participation of females in STEM education and careers.

In support of this, Griffith College provided a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) Bursary for DEIS second-level schools nationwide, in partnership with CPL Recruitment. This bursary provided the winning schools with between €2,000 and €5,000 to use towards STEAM facilities and training for students and staff. The initiative was supported by a range of leading firms including Wolfgang Digital, Microsoft, and Core, who provided site visits, interview workshops and events where students met members of their current teams.

The IT Department at Griffith College also committed to revamping the winning schools' computer labs with improved and updated PCs.

Winners of the 2020/21 STEAM Bursary included:
