Biography

I am a non-practising solicitor in England and Wales, where I worked for approximately 20 years in the area of family law, covering all areas of practice from public (care proceedings representing children and parents) through divorce and financial matters, settling multi-million-pound divorces, pre-nuptial agreements, private child disputes to International Child Abduction cases in the High Court.  I also have considerable experience in dealing with issues concerning trusts and settlement of land.

I qualified as an arbitrator in 2015 in Divorce Law and was one of the first lawyers in England to qualify as an arbitrator in Children Act matters (2016).  I have been a member of several prominent boards, including the Family Justice Council sitting as Vice Chair and I was an equity partner in my own law firm running a very busy practice.  I also worked with the homeless charity CRISIS for 6 years working at their Christmas shelters at a senior level.

I am currently in my second year of my PhD undertaking research into the prospect of family law arbitration being introduced into the Irish jurisdiction.  I have also been module leader at the University of Limerick for the Masters European Convention on Human Rights module as well as the undergraduate Administrative Law module.  I am currently working with the Irish Family Law Association and members of the Irish Bar at the practical framework for introducing family law arbitration in Ireland.

I have been published in the Cambridge Journal of Law, Politics and Arts and have delivered papers at two important conferences in 2023.  I also tutor students on their written work at the Writing Centre here at the University of Limerick.

I am approachable and friendly in my manner and I look forward to working with my students in the coming year.
