The Law Faculty is pleased to announce the appointment of Barry Glynn BL as the new Debating and Mooting Co-ordinator for the Faculty. Barry is a highly experienced public speaker, practising Barrister and supervising lawyer on the Irish Innocence Project.
The Faculty believes that with his ambition, experience, motivation and drive he is ideally placed ideal to lead the Debating Society, have Griffith represented in the ‘Worlds’ and the European Debating Championships, The Irish Times debate, as well as entering a specific number of intervarsity competitions. He will also give debating / public speaking work-shops during the year. Griffith has a proven track record in the field of debating and indeed , Sean O Quigley, an LLM student, recently won the Individual Speaker Award at the Irish Times Debate in 2010.
Debating encourages any student pursuing a degree in law to hone their professional speaking / advocacy skills and will be of tremendous help to anyone wishing to pursue further legal training with professional bodies such as the Kings Inns.
Barry had his first meeting with students on October 13th. Anyone studying law who is interested in joining the debating society should contact debate@gcd.ie.
