This course has been designed to give students a fundamental knowledge of all aspects of music and sound technology, while providing the encouragement and scope for students to delve deeper into areas of interest. Tuition consist of a combination of theory based classes and practical tutorials which take place in our purpose built state of the art studio and dedicated media production suite running industry standard music technology soft-ware. Students have access to these facilities outside of class time and are expected to work in groups and independently to complete their assignments.
The field of music technology is constantly evolving and in order to provide the required skill sets for this adaptive industry, city and guilds have revised their previous course. Griffith College is one of the first institutions in Ireland to deliver this newly updated qualification.
Griffith college has an impressive media faculty with successful courses in Journalism, TV/Video and Photography. Our students are encouraged to participate within the faculty by assisting with the colleges radio station, Giff FM, and recording and mastering audio for the TV and Video students films.Stage 2 Stage 2 Core Principles of Audio Enginering Development of the Principles Audio and Electronics Music Technology Sound Control and Studio Techniques Production Techniques Use of Computers in Music Practical Audio and Electronics Communications in Sound Computer Music Applications Studio Practice Tutorials and seminars on relevant technical issues are also offered. Practical assignments will cover: Planning, Basic Console Operations, Patch Bay Wiring, Microphone Techniques, Analogue and Digital Editing Multi-track Recording and the Preparation of Master Tapes. Assignments cover Practical Console Operations, Analogue and Digital Mixing Techniques, the use of Sound Processors and Effects, Multi-Microphone Applications, the Use of Midi in Music Recording and Time Code and Synchronisation of Music to Picture. Despite the highly competitive nature of the industry, recent trends have shown strong potential for recording professionals in music studios, post production houses, radio stations, internet publishing houses, computer games manufacturers, retail sales and hire-services, education, film production and performance. No prior knowledge of music is required to successfully gain entry into this course.
