Student Profile Name: Karen Wong Course Completed: IILEX Diploma in Legal Studies Year Completed: 2011 Comments: I found this course to be very informative. I personally enjoyed studying Constitutional Law, Criminal Law and Family Law.
I enjoyed Land law but did find the Conveyance part of it quite difficult to get to grips with so I would advise students to study this part of the course right from the very beginning intensely, as if there were an exam in it each week rather then just reading through each chapter, as I found this subject to be a little overwhelming to study for before an actual exam.
This course has taught me so much in such a short space of time on certain laws within Ireland. I have found studying law really opens up the mind and gives you a greater grasp on the world around you.
For example studying Constitutional Law informed me on certain rights I had that I wasn't even aware that I had!
Through studying this course I am even more aware just how much law has an effect on the world around us and could see its presence in everyday life.
I studied this course through distance learning which I found to be very enjoyable to study this way Although I know this way of studying is not for everyone and they prefer the feel of communicating with their classmates not once did I feel excluded from the class just because I wasn't in attendance for the actual lectures. I was kept up to date on what was going on with my course through the videos which were always posted up the day after the actual lecture and never had a problem with seeing or hearing the video and I was always kept up to date with exam times and where an exam would be taking place through regular emails.
I personally think the idea of studying this course through distance learning was a fantastic idea. I have always wanted to study law but got sidetracked after leaving school. As the years went by the interest for studying law did not wane but my fear for going back and studying grew, so when I saw Griffith College were doing this type of courses through distance learning I was thrilled. I felt this way of studying gave me the opportunity to study at my own pace and allowed me to build my confidence back up in studying in the privacy of my own home.
At the moment I work in Admin for an IT company so it may look as if the IILEX course doesn't have much relevance to what I am working at, at the moment; however I found this not to be the case. Through studying Employment Law and Company Law I had a greater knowledge on my rights as an employee and the rights of my employer and how a company was actually formed. I personally think that to have on a CV that I completed this course would always look good to prospective future employers.
I am now hoping to progress on with my studies and receive a degree in law which I know will not be an easy journey but if the next two years go by as well as my time did whilst studying the IILEX course it will make it an awful lot easier.
