Advice on using the CAO Change of mind facility.
The CAO change of mind date of July 1st 2010 is fast approaching and this can be a crucial time for students looking to get into third level education. The change of mind facility does not incur any extra charge and if you opt for this alternative bear in mind that this is similar to filling out your original CAO application forms, and you should consider few things before making a decision. Some suggested tips by Ireland‘s largest private third level Institution, Griffith College are:
Start by researching PLC, Certificates, and degrees offered by the colleges. Then, read all college prospectuses carefully and be informed on what is ahead in the course and expected of you.
Discuss all potential changes with a parent/guardian and/or contact the Admissions Office of the relevant college which are open during the summer months. It is very important that you place your courses in order of preference on the form. Pick your choices on the basis of the career that you wish to achieve and what suits your interests and needs.
Griffith College, for example, offers courses in: Law, Business, Accounting, Computing Science, Media, Photography, Interior Architecture, Interior Design and Fashion Design. The Admissions personnel of Griffith College can provide you with further information and guidance in your change of mind process.
Please note that some programmes at Griffith College may be applied for directly to the College and not through CAO, for example, the LLB (Hons) in Irish Law and the BA (Hons) in International Hospitality Management. Students should contact the Admissions Office of the College for more details.
In addition, all CAO applicants should be aware that Vacant Places will be offered on some programmes in August and September. There will be a limited number of programmes that will still be offering places later in the summer; however, a lot of programmes will not have vacancies at this time.
Further information on vacant places can be found on www.cao.ie or from the CAO handbook. You can also contact us on 01 415 0400 log on to www.gcd.ie or visit our next Open Day on the 21st of August from 12.00 – 5.00 pm
