Griffith College Business Enterprise Competition
A team of enterprising students from St. Clare's Comprehensive School in Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim scooped the top prize at the inaugural Griffith College Business Enterprise Competition which took place at the main Dublin campus on 14th March 2013.
Held as part of 'Schools Week', a week-long event which invites second level students nationwide to attend Griffith College for a day to get an insight into third level study options, the Business Enterprise Competition challenged students to pitch an original business idea or product to a panel of experts at the College.
The winning team, Matthew Hewston, Luke Sheridan, and Fergus Munday, with the support of teacher Ms. Claire Gallagher, was awarded the Business Enterprise Cup and a cheque for €500 for their product 'Squeazy'.

Beating off competition from the ten other shortlisted teams at the final, 'Squeazy' is an innovative educational game that has sold more than 700 units to date. Not alone is it useful as a science toy for illustrating floating and sinking concepts, but it has also been marketed by the students to physiotherapists as a resource to help people regain strength in their hand muscles.
Competition judge and Head of the Business Faculty at Griffith College, Mr. Seamus Fitzpatrick said, "The innovation and imagination we witnessed from students at this first Business Enterprise Competition greatly impressed us all. The winning team in particular demonstrated a viable business product which has already been marketed and sold extensively. These students have natural marketing and business development ability and are exactly what we need to secure the future of business in Ireland. I would like to congratulate the 'Squeazy' team and their teacher for an outstanding product and demonstration. They are very deserving winners."
