The Griffith College Fashion Design course is designed to cultivate your creativity. We focus on the development of original ideas - through innovation, experimentation, and a close relationship between tutors and students. You learn the technical, design, and business skills needed to transition from student to world-class fashion professional.
The BA (Hons) Fashion Design Project - the core area of study - allows you to explore a personal direction in design, from idea generation, design development and pattern cutting, through to garment construction, contemporary production techniques, and a final showing of your work.
Griffith has made a name for itself as one of the top Fashion Design colleges in Ireland, with our student work being shown nationally and internationally and in magazines and newspapers. This reputation has allowed us to develop relationships with some of the biggest names in Irish Fashion. As a location for Fashion Design, Dublin is second to none. The Irish fashion scene is booming, and our students are well positioned to take advantage of this growth.
Our programme is suited for students with an interest in costume design, dressmaking, fashion merchandising, trend forecasting, and designing at all levels.
Recognizing that traditional manufacturing bases have been relocated to low cost economies. Griffith College has responded with a comprehensive syllabus offering training in the most up to date Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Manufacturing (CAM) software.
Our graduates are prepared for work as fashion designers liaising with offshore production facilities, buyers, trend forecasters and roles involving the use of design creativity supported by technical and business knowledge.
Students have the opportunity to spend an additional year of study at the renowned NABA Institute in Milan, Italy. NABA, who also work with Central St Martins in London, is based in the Italian fashion capital and offers exciting and stimulating insight into the workings of the avant-garde fashion houses of Milan. Students who successfully graduate from Griffith College also have the opportunity to take postgraduate study at NABA leading to a Master of Arts award.

An art portfolio is required, this can include samples of sketching, notebooks, concept development and technical drawing etc. Please see the portfolio guidelines below.
Applicants for the BA (Hons) in Fashion Design should note that on receipt of their completed application they will be contacted to confirm their portfolio review date. Portfolios should be submitted for review to Griffith College Dublin by the applicant (or a person nominated by the applicant) on the allocated date and time. The review process takes approximately 15 minutes and portfolios will be returned to the applicant on the same day. Griffith College will not retain any pieces of work for further assessment.
