20th Century Fox recently facilitated the Irish Innocence Project at Griffith College Dublin with a special preview screening of Conviction.
Conviction is a 2010 drama film directed by Tony Goldwyn. It stars Hilary Swank as Betty Anne Waters and Sam Rockwell as her brother Kenneth Waters.The film is based on the true story of Betty Anne Waters, a single mother who, with the help of attorney Barry Scheck from the Innocence Project, exonerated her wrongfully convicted brother.
The screening was attended by a range of legal professionals and friends of the project, as well as supervising lawyers, case workers, and the Director.
The Irish project is a member of the Innocence Network which was founded by Barry Scheck who is portrayed as a central player in the film and thus the links of the Irish Project to the international innocence movement was clearly evident to those who attended.
Finally this screening offered an opportunity for legal practitioners and friends to better understand the real life potential of the work of Innocence Projects and the Irish Project in particular.
